CAD models
LISA does not have a CAD kernel like Parasolid or ACIS to recognize CAD entities like solids & surfaces, so you will not be able to import your CAD models into LISA. You will need to re-create your part using LISA's modelling tools.
DXF import
DXF import is possible but it's use is deprecated because it requires quite an effort to prepare the file in a form that is understood by LISA, it's much quicker to re-create the model within LISA itself. But, if you're really determined to use DXF here's some additional information.
Most DXF
formats should work correctly, but a few programs like
SolidEdge customize their DXF file format. In such cases,
the DXF import file does not work with LISA.
A free 2D
CAD program that has been successfully tested with LISA
is CADVANCE by F.I.T. Inc,. This used to be a commercial
product uptill 1995 but now they have generously made it
available to the public for download via the internet. To
download the program please click here !
While
working with CADVANCE please note the following points:
i. When writing any Text, use the "CAD" option
and not the "True Text"
ii. After exporting the DXF file use a simple text editor
like Notepad to check the file. CADVANCE tends to save a
layer name specified as for e.g. LISA.NN as LISA_NN__2.
Using the text editor change it back to what it's
supposed to be viz. LISA.NN. Do same for all the named
layers, e.g LISA.NET, LISA.EIO etc.
iii. When specifying the node points, e.g. P 1, P 2 etc
use a space between P and the number e.g. P 1 not P1.
